What we've done in the Beye community so far this year
The year is off to a busy start for the Beye community and the PTO! Take a look below at all of the things we've accomplished so far this school year, but please keep in mind, we can't do this without your support: to date, we've raised $7,800 while spending $17,900 on the programs below. Staff Lounge refresh: PTO volunteers used a donation given expressly for the purpose of improving the staff lounge to create a cozy, welcoming space for staff members to work, eat lunch, and relax during the day. So many staff members have reached to say how much they appreciate the new look, as well as the snacks and drinks families have been keeping it stocked with!
Assemblies: All Beye students had the opportunity to enjoy the Hispanic Heritage Month assembly, with Opera for the Young and a Hip Hop assembly rounding out the first trimester.
Grants: The PTO has given out over $4,500 for classroom supplies and enrichment to teachers and staff through our annual grant program. The PTO has also provided subscriptions to either Time for Kids or Scholastic News to every Beye student in grades K-2.
Community events: The PTO has hosted the Parent Coffee on the first day of school, the Back to School Picnic, and Math Night. Join us in November for our Dia de Los Muertos celebration and a community PTO meeting to learn about the School Improvement Plan and the new STAR assessments.
Birthday Books: Last year, the former School Librarian, Mr. Withers, asked the PTO for funds to start a new program where he chose a new book to gift to every Beye student on their birthday. The PTO is thrilled to work with new Teacher Librarian, Ms Costello, to fund this once again and celebrate all of our Bobcats while fostering a love of reading.
Curriculum Night Babysitting: The PTO provided babysitting services during Curriculum Night as a convenience for parents.
Teacher Conference Meals: The PTO provides a lunch during fall Parent-Teacher Conferences for all staff members.
Walk/Bike/Roll to School Day: The PTO worked with Mr. S. to provide stickers, encouraging physical fitness and green ways to get to school.
Assistance for students and families: The PTO used equity funds provided by a local non-profit to provide an after-school care scholarship for a family in need, and will once again make sure that all students eligible for free and reduced lunch receive vouchers to the Fall book fair. The community also raised funds separately for the gift baskets for the students involved in a car accident earlier this year.
Administrative costs: The PTO also uses funds to pay for our website, subscribe to Konstella, our communication platform, renew our annual insurance policy, and pay to print the Beye Directory (coming soon!).
